The White Brother with the subtitle An Occult Autobiography was written in 1927 by Michael Houghton under the pseudonym Michael Juste. Houghton was an associate of Aleister Crowley and editor of the journal the Occult Observer. The White Brother refers to his theosophical studies that he shared with Paul Brunton, and the book specifically mentions Blavatsky’s Secret Doctrine. A character in Juste’s book named David was modeled on Brunton. Brunton and Houghton opened a bookstore together that went bankrupt after a few months. Mind is a Myth is last of the three available books transcribed from talks with U.G. Krishnamurti. The first pages outlines his extraordinary life and his calamitiy, as he calls the all-changing transformation that took place on his 47th birtday:

“U.G. ceased to act any longer via the separative thought structure. A bit of energy entered his brain through one of the senses and was LEFT ALONE. A bit of energy left alone to vibrate freely, untranslated, uncensored, and unused by a separative, preemptive thought structure is a dangerous thing. It is the very substance of inner anarchy. Being untouched by thought, which is time, it has nowhere to go and can find no escape from the stillness. A tremendous molecular pressure is built up that can have release only in an explosion. That explosion caused within U.G. the collapse of the entire thought structure, and with it the notion of an independent self and an opposing society.”

This short autobiography by Nathan Gill describes his spiritual search and non-dramatic awakening. From the book:

“There does not need to be any kind of ‘event’ associated with the recognition of our true nature. Well, as it happened, in September 1998 an event arose. I was gardening and the rain was drizzling down. I looked up, and there was a subtle sense of ‘me’ not being there. I got on my bike and cycled around the lanes and it seemed as though there was a movie going on, without any effort necessary on my part to be taking part in it. With this sudden dropping of the ‘I’, all need for understanding fell away as knowing was revealed.”

Samana Liangta Maha Boowa an Autobiography

Samana is a new release from the Thai Buddhist organization Forrest Dhamma Books. On January 30, 2011 at the age of 97, Luangta Maha Boowa, died in his monastary after a life in service. Samana is his edited and richly illustrated autobiography. It gives a great insight in to the life in the Baan Taad Forest Monastery in Thailand and the dedication its monks. The Buddha-Carita, or The Life of Buddha by Aevaghosa edited and translated by Edward B. Cowell is the original biography of the Buddha. The text is translated directly from sanskrift scriptures written in the fifth century. From the translators foreword:

The Buddha-carita was translated into Chinese by Dharmarakùa in the fifth century, and a translation of this was published by the Rev. S. Beal in the present series [of the Sacred Books of the East]; it was also translated into Tibetan in the seventh or eighth century. The Tibetan as well as the Chinese version consists of twenty-eighth chapters, and carries down the life of Buddha to his entrance into Nirvana and the subsequent division of the sacred relics. The Tibetan version appears to be much closer to the original Sanskrit than the Chinese; in fact from its verbal accuracy we can often reproduce the exact words of the original, since certain Sanskrit words are always represented by the same Tibetan equivalents, as for instance, the prepositions prefixed to verbal roots.
