A PEEP INTO THE GROWH OF
RELIGION IN INDIA– RADHEY SHIAM
(From Stone Age to 20th Century – Hinduism, Islam,
Christianity, Sikhism, Jainism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism)
https://www.academia.edu/128173279/A_PEEP_INTO_THE_GROWH_OF_RELIGION_IN_INDIA_RADHEY_SHIAM
To an Indian Religion is an endevour to raise oneself to a higher level of being mental, moral and spiritual discipline. It is the most potent force that has worked and is still working to mould the destinies of the human race, not only the Indians. To peep into its growth in India, is a task of huge magnitude and perhaps it is impossible to fathom the depth of the Indian ocean of religions in a few columns of what thousands of sages have described in thousands of books for thousands of years. One has to try to dive into this fathomless ocean of continual evolution of what we call religion in India only to give a glimpse.
Man wants to keep up the memory of his dear ones and thinks that they are living, even when the body is dissolved. He desires to share his treasures and pleasures with them. Out of that sense came the growth of what we call religion. If we look back to the stone age of Indian History, as some Historians say, 500 thousand years ago we find that man has had some faint idea about life, and life after death. Perhaps he thought that life does not end with death and after death man also needs the articles he had been using during his lifetime. Thus he was led away to bury pots, weapons, meat etc. along with the dead. We find clear traces of the fact that the ancestor-worship is the beginning of religion, from the excavations at various centers in India namely Karnool, Gujrat, Jabalpur, Puneh etc. etc.

The state of ancestor worship lasted thousands and thousands of years, till man was attracted towards the productive power of nature. It is about 6000 B.C. that man saw and observed with amazement that the birds, the beasts, the trees, the plants, the insects, all around him, are gifted with a supernatural power of production. So the power of production came into existence as the Mother Goddess who was worshiped in all the four great civilizations of the time viz, Egyptians, Babylonians, Chinese and Indians. So far, over sixty historic sites have been excavated in India proving the existence of many aspects of popular Hinduism of today.
Life should be like two faces of coins of sacrifice and services. So says the 20th Century Saint SRI ARVIND

“The essence of Indian Religion is to live for God, for humanity, for the country, for others and for oneself.”

THE LAW OF KARMA (ACTION) – Radhey Shiam
https://www.academia.edu/128036204/THE_LAW_OF_KARMA_radhey_shiam

We are governed by one law, known as law of Karma (action). All that we see men, birds, beasts, insects tree etc. etc. all are governed by this law. All the phenomena of nature, even the universe is subject to this law. This law keeps up the inner harmony and logical order of the whole universe. It includes both causes and effects.

We desire something and then work and exert to acquire what we desire. Our desire produces action, we perform and do. Every action of ours produces fruits of successes or failure, we may say, pleasure or pain. Every action of our is bound to react with equal force and effect. This is law of Karma. Today or tomorrow, we have to bear the consequences good or bad, or our deeds. We have to reap the fruits of our Karma to-day or tomorrow. We have to take births and rebirths to bear the effects of our actions.

The mango seed will only produce a mango tree. Similarly, if you sow the seed of an evil action you will reap the harvest of pain and suffering. If you sow the seed of virtuous action you will reap the harvest of pleasure. Your actions of the past are responsible for your present condition. Your present actions will shape or mould your future. Noble and good thoughts develop a noble character which produces noble and golden deeds. Enter-tailing evil thoughts, develops a base character.

All your Karma can not bear fruits in the present life. Therefore, there must be another birth for enjoying to the result of the remaining actions. All your desires are not fulfilled in this very lie. You will have to acquire your object or objects or your desire in the next births. Each soul has a series of births and deaths in accordance with the Karma.

You do come in this world with certain acquired habits in the previous birth, or births. This is why children of the same parents vary in habits, character desires and actions. Every being is born with some desires which are associated with things enjoyed by him in the past life.

So long as you desire objects of this world, you must come back to this world to possess and enjoy them. The chain of births and deaths is continued. But once the desire for mundane objects ceases the chain is broken. You are free. No birth no death. You attain the goal of life – final emancipation. The liberated soul may live in the Universe with the God or in the God or in the God Totally merged or take another form out of its own will for spiritual liberation of the all.

Selfless work will not bind you to the wheel of birth and death. Work without attachment man longing for its fruits, purifies your heart and head leading to the descent of the Divine light and grace. Work as a part of duty devoid of causes and effects. Think rightly. Act rightly. Live rightly. Attain eternal bliss and immortality, by reintegration through action.

Buddhism and the law of Karma - The law of karma in Buddhism is based on the idea that a person's actions determine their future. The cycle of rebirth is determined by karma.
Christianity and the law of Karma - The Bible does not support the idea of karma as an ongoing process, but it does teach that people reap what they sow.
Hinduism and the law of Karma - is the idea that actions have consequences, and that what a person does in this life affects their next life. It's also known as the law of cause and effect.
Islam and the law of Karma - Muslims do not believe in karma as it is commonly understood, but they do believe in accountability for actions. Instead, they believe that Allah will judge people based on their actions.
Explanation
Jainism and the law of Karma - In Jainism, karma is a physical substance that affects a soul's happiness and circumstances. It's believed that karma is created by a soul's actions, thoughts, and words.
Judaism and the law of Karma- Judaism is called middah k'neged middah, which translates to "measure for measure". It's a principle of hashgacha pratit, which is the Jewish concept of divine providence. Jews believe that God judges how good or bad people have been in order to decide their destiny in the afterlife. This is often seen as motivation to behave well and obey all of God's rules.
Sikhism and the law of Karma - In Sikhism, a person gains good and bad karma throughout their life. Karma determines what happens to that individual's atma in the next life. The cycle of samsara repeats itself until the atma has been liberated from the pattern and is reunited with Waheguru in mukti.
Taoism and the law of Karma - The law of karma in Taoism is the idea that actions have consequences, and that these consequences are tracked by supernatural beings. Rebirth: The idea that karma can lead to rebirth as a human or animal
Zoroastrianism and the law of Karma - Zoroastrianism teaches that people are responsible for their actions, and that good or bad deeds result in good or bad consequences. This is similar to the law of karma in other belief systems, but Zoroastrianism also includes the concept of Ahura Mazda, who can forgive or punish sins.

SILENCE-RADHEY SHIAM
https://www.academia.edu/97607034/SILENCE_RADHEY_SHIAM

Silence is but a natural state of a being. Non-speaking is not silence. No desire to seek silence and no efforts to attain it, is the soul of silence. We can make a noise, but can not make a silence, since silence is always there, like the air, we breathe in.

A life of silence is a divine lotus, emitting fragrance of peaceful joyous ease. Only in the natural sweet silence, the sun of truth dawns upon the seeker, but not in the dark night of speech. Only in silence, a sense of peace prevails upon the seeker. When the ship of silence sails across the sea of speech, it a reaches the wisdom harbour. An unique calm prevails. A forced silence, lips tight, restless worried mind, no peace within is an ego-show.

Silence is the gateway to the invisible soul. It reveals the truth to a blessed soul only. Silence or say the voiceless voice is the language of God. In speechless eloquence, God speaks to us. The dead silence speaks a wordless voice, but only the innerself hears. The innerself, say soul hears the inner call and understands it meaning, since it awakes the heart to become one with the soul. This needs no word to commune and explain the meaning. The sweet silence makes one feel oneness with the self and ultimately with the Universe.

Silence in life, leads one to romance with the peaceful harmony. Such an elevated state of consciousness dwells in silent solitude. Refuge in silence infuses hope, inspiration and confidence to imagine and create. Silence nurtures matchless imaginations in still solitude. Not only that imaginations flourish along with peace in mind, one can also embrace the realself with ease in sweet silence. For achieving an aim, concentrated efforts are only possible in silence.

Sweetness of silence is the essence of all religions. It is but the silence that can reveal the self, the truth to the silence of the heart. Words have no power to speak about the unknown, unspeakable and the unspoken. To learn the art of silence you need no lesson, no sermon, no guide etc. The taste of silence is the sweetest and the holiest of all tastes.

Silence is harmless. It acts as a soothing balm and heals wounds. It melts away the self delusion and brightens cosmic conscience. It exercises better control over senses and passions. As a true friend, it betrays none. It generates energy to work more. It is a graveyard of heated arguments, denials and foul words. Inside a person the sublime power of silence, is stronger than the speech. The wise say, ‘Speech is silver and silence is gold’. Silence is often very harshly eloquent. It succeeds where speech fails badly. Silence is more important than the speech. The language of silence travels to the dept of heart via eyes and mind.

Beauty of silence lies in joyous ease and harmonious living. The golden voice of sweet silence is the voice of God, which only the blessed do hear and derive delight from the peaceful silence. Stillness of the mind inspires the soul to dwell in the joys of the eternity. It is wordless wonder of the true bliss.

THE INNER LIGHT- RADHEY SHIAM
https://www.academia.edu/127975596/THE_INNER_LIGHT_RADHEY_SHIAM

We are the sons and daughters of God. He is our father as well as mother. We have come out of Him. We are particle of particle of One Great being. He is within us. He has implanted within us a certain element of His own Spirit and divinity. By birth we have inherited certain divine faculties being a part of that Great Being. This element within us is peaceful, auspicious, beautiful, radiant, eternal, ever pure, and immortal. In our being who come to this world, it is there to enlighten the dark cells of the being. It pervades all creation. A little introspection and enquiry will reveal that in the inner chamber of our hearts, there is an impulse for self awareness, an urge to peep beyond the invisible and a strong longing to be really happily and blissful. It is inwardly revealed to the man through the working of some unseen force, say God’s grace or the effects of service by the man of the man for the God. We cannot see, hold or touch but can experience the Divine Spirit in ourselves, we can hear the call of the inner voice. We can understand His wordless and soundless speech and feel the glow, brightening away the cells of darkness on our path of life. Some call it Atman, some name it as seed of Light or the seed of Christ. Myriad tongues have given myriad names. It is called Antah Karan – Inner consciousness or say soul consciousness as well as Hari Bhagwan, God, Khuda and so on. But it is light the Eternal Light and the Light of God, Right and Truth.

Broadly speaking the essence of spiritual life is to manifest the Inner Consciousness. It is the Goal of our life – the Self Realization in the books of Vedanta and “Known thyself” in the language of SOCRATES. We endavour to reach this is through Yoga, Sadhana, Worship, services and several other means as advocated by the great wise man and holy books or scriptures, taking forms of various religions. To attain this goal of life, we need regular practice of certain means and ways to discipline our mind and senses to a righteous living. All spiritual endavours of ours are to have moral rectitude and ethical perfection to live like a universal man in order to act as directed by self consciousness. Cultivation of positive traits such as truthfulness, goodness, purity unselfishness, love service etc and elimination all that is negative and evil in ourselves such as lust, anger, greet, pride, attachment etc. are various forms of discipline which forms the basis requisites to help us to see the Divine life in ourselves to listen to the call of Inner voice coming from within and to live and act accordingly.

The light illuminates us. It discerns between the good and the evil or say the light and the dark or the truth and the untruth or we may say in the Vedanta language the real and the unreal. It reveals the presence of the both in the human being and offers the alternative choice. The potentialities of good as well as evil are latent in every human being. Both of these are universal and potent. It depends upon us to allow the good or the evil to spread, to develop and to overcome the other. This is like two forces within us standing against each other awaiting our orders to attack the others. Either of the forces if nourished and cultivated will overcome the other. What we should resist and eliminate and what we should nourished and cultivate is told by the spirit known as Atman, Seed of Christ, the Light and various other names. It is an invisible power within us. We also call it as voice of God. Various religions in this world have described it and have given one and thousand names according to prevailing traditions of the time. But as I feel it is nothing but an invisible power of the Light that overcomes the dark. It is the power of God within us that overcome the foul play of Shaitan. But to hear the voice of God or the Inner Voice of our consciousness and to follow it is not possible without practice of certain methods and disciplines. We need some spiritual power, beside moral force to fight the forces of evil fall that help us to achieve this aim is termed ad philosophy or religion. The scriptures or the holy words of Saints, Prophets, and religious seekers do command our respect. Truly these words ever written or spoken are not the final authority. The final authority to dictate the man is the spirit behind these words that guides the MAN to the path of the Truth. It is a continuing revealing process of the Truth that lead us to the Light. It guided in the past and still shines in the hearts of saint and sages and leads them further and further to the Divine Path. It will continue to shine in the man or women to lead them to a new Vista of joyous experiences and spiritual fulfillment.

Since the light works within the religious ceremony and rite have minor value. It entails no ceremonies or outward acts to have communion with the Inner Life or the Divine Light. It requires only the cultivation of good latent to have a conscious openness to all Divine callings and a strong pure and golden spirit to act to the call of Divine. The Inner Light or the Divine Light is always available to the man. But good are those who listen to it, see its glow and feel its presence and great are those who follow it also. Such Beings are called saints, holy man, and even children of God. This Guiding force is termed as God. But it is the Light the Inner Light and the Divine Light.

It is better to go in the lapse of Mother Nature, so kind, generous and benevolent, or in the solitary corner of your home full of calmness and peace for observing His wonderful works, than to steal an eye on other women's wealth and wanting with an evil desire.

Whatever we see, hear, smell, think, remember, imagine and do leaves a print on the paper of your mind, that we can recall at any moment. If it is good and noble, it gives us pleasure, if not , it is troublesome.

To find our end in life Eternity, through spiritual means, is the aim of life according to Indian Culture.

Giving gives pleasure to the Giver, while taking takes away the pleasure from the Taker.

Indian Concept of Evolution of Life on Earth –Radhey Shiam
https://www.academia.edu/124314694/Indian_Concept_of_Evolution_of_Life_on_Earth_Radhey_Shiam

Generally, people in the East and the West opine that Hindus believe in a personal God as creator of the Universe. Virtually it seems to be true, because of the popular myth of Trinity of Brahma, the creator, Vishnu, the preserver and Mahesh the destroyer. Further, the incarnation theory confirms this notion. There is another myth also about the creation of the Universe. The Mother Goddess Durga with her nine manifestations is the creator of the entire Universe and performs all functions attributed to the Trinity of Brahma Vishnu Mahesh. Besides, there is idol worship of several other gods and goddesses more or less with similar attributes. Such contradictory myths cannot be the true picture of the Hindu’s concept of the creation.

Indians have maintained the age- old traditional worship of gods and goddesses by constructing magnificent temples in several towns of the United States, a country of different culture and religion. Indian saints and sages have also established religious institutions for conducting classes for Yoga, meditation and religious discourages etc. etc. for the benefit of Indians and willing non-Indians this also misleads people to think that Hindus believe in a personal God. In addition the most popular ISKON movement amongst the Whites, dedicated to the worship of Lord Krishna, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, gives strength to the belief that Hindus believe in a personal God as the master of creation.

Since every individual is not gifted with the same intellect and ability to understand theology, the mythology came in. Myths, like stories, are easy to understand. It matters little, if one grasps not the meaning behind the symbols of myths. But it is true as the Sun that Hindus believe in evolution theory and not in a personal God, as a creator.

According to Hindu theology, God is a microcosm as well as macrocosm. One emphasizes that God is omnipresent. God is present in every form and hue, in every animate and inanimate object of nature or say the Universe. One feels the presence of God, in golden glory of morning, sweet kiss of awakening, starry splendour of the night-queen, swaying green angles of the forest, sweet notes of the flying hues, speaking silence of snowy peaks, refreshing touches of the breeze, charming spectrum of the rainbow, sounds of rains, thunder of clouds, roars of the seas etc., etc.. The other one cherishes that God is all inclusive, a great harmonious whole, as explained and illustrated by Lord Krishna to Prince Arjun by his Virat-roop, holding together every thing i.e. the whole of Universe as a part of his being. In this sense God is nothing but an Absolute. It is a clear denial of a personal God, as creator of the Universe. These twin concepts of God are two faces of a single coin, but, an inspiration to realize that the fountain of happiness is within the man and one can experience the bliss of divinity through living in love, peace, harmony and beauty with a pure and positive attitude and approach towards the life and the world around, with moral perfection, devotion and dedication in every walk of life.

Vedic thinkers had arrived at a unitary conception of the Universe. Say Brahm (God) and Brahmand (Universe) are one. It was further confirmed by Vedanta philosophers, who believed in a cosmological monism or say the concept of indeterminate nature, we call Brahm(God) as well as Swayambho (self born). Vedic view of creation is also confirmed by scientists of the day that creativity is inherent in nature itself. Creation, preservation and destruction is the law of nature. Hindu scriptures call it Parkiriti (nature), so nature is the creator. It is a flow of continuity without a beginning. No one can point out a particular day, being the day of creation and a particular location, the place of creation. No one can name the creator. All we can say that it is a constant process of creation, preservation and destruction going on in the Universe, say Brhamand. Hindu scriptures have symbolized these three functions of nature in the Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh.

Science and religion are two windows that people look through to know and understand Brhamand, (Parkiriti), the indeterminate nature and its functions and the God, said to be the Supreme Power. These two windows give different views which are imperfect. No doubt, both views have played a vital role in human life, so both command respect.

Several religions believe in an actual creator of the Universe that gave birth to the most popular concept of God. The notion of life evolution is alien to some cultures, ancient and modern both. To them God is a permanent part of nature. But every religion has a myth of its own, about the creator. The entire texture of religious life is charged with various myths of gods and goddesses, perceptions and conceptions of moral order, about God, world and life. Countless ideas are so interwoven with human history that essential features of the real Universe have been left out unconsidered. Therefore, such a one sided view needs sceptical scrutiny by deep insight. Myths, gods and goddesses are non identical, so are incredulous. Moreover, there are several religions that deny the very existence of any God.

Science says that there are millions of stars, planets and suns etc. visible as well as invisible, which are in constant process of creation and destruction every moment. Disintegration and reintegration are always taking place in the Universe. It is an endless drama of evolution, being enacted on the Universal stage by heavenly bodies in a natural way, without any director. Indian thinkers confirm the story of evolution. In respect of life on the earth, Indian sages believe, first there was nothing on the earth. With the appearance of rain clouds, water flowed on earth, followed by aquatic life. Then came reptiles who could survive on land and water both. These were followed by birds, vegetation , mammals, animals and finally man. The living world has millions of different kinds of organisms. We find a mention of eighty four lakhs (millions) of yonies (species) of life in Hindu scriptures.

Indian philosophers do not believe in myth of Adam and Eve and that the origin of sin, is the origin of creation. Hindus too have a myth of Manu and Satroopa for the origin of the man, un-referential to widely accepted notion of evolution, so carries little weight. Indian thinkers believe that creation is process of evolution from the lower to higher species and finally the man. Water has been the first cradle of life. Life originated in water. Organisms require a water rich environment for growth and reproduction. 70 to 90% of living cells are water. It is capable of forming hydrogen bonds. Molecular oxygen is essential for life. As such life originated from the matter. An ancient Indian Rishi Manu, in his Manusmiriti, has recognized the evolution theory. According to him the creation of life was a chain of progressive changes in nature. This has been further confirmed by the Indian myth of Das Avtar (ten incarnations of God). The evolution theory has been confirmed by the Western thinkers also. Alexander I Oparin (1894-1980), a Russian biochemist and one J.B.S. Haldane (1892-1964) put forward the concept that the first living thing evolved from the non-living thing, An Indian thinker, Charak, the author of Chark Sashinta has a similar view. He held that the man and the visible world are composed of Earth Water, Fire, Ether and Air i.e the lifeless matter. Harold C. Urey (1893-1981) an Astronomer accorded recognition to Haldene and Oparin view on origin of life. Plato (428-348BC) and Aristotle (384-322BC) believed in the concept of chain-like series of creation. Hindu scriptures speak a language of symbols. Considering the myth of Das Avtar, we find refined the first being Matsya Avtar (aquatic life) which is confirmation of the first life-form coming from water. A life form came out of a formless nebula. Evolution is a gradual and opportunistic organic mechanism by natural and intelligent selection for survival. Living system has to maintain a regulatory mechanism for adjusting to the changing and fluctuating external environment. Life has passed from lower organism to the highest organism, from simple to complex hierarchical level. It is progressive story of mole cells, tissues and organs. Life on earth is a never ending flow of energy from one cell to another, from one organism to another. This fact has been confirmed by Indian mythology, particularly by Das Avtar, ten incarnations of God. Matsyavtar (aquatic life) was followed by Kachyapavtar (the turtle), symbol of reptile life. Primitive sea life, water plants, sea weeds animals have been accustomed to breathing air mixed with water. Vertebrates were able to survive on land also. Amphibians were restricted to swampy marshy land. The earliest mammals and birds evolved out of reptiles like ancestors. Their scales later developed into fur. Kachyapavtar was followed by Varahavatar (pig), representing animal life. Earliest man was developed from a stock of anthropoid apes. So comes Narsinghavtar (half man half animal) the evolutionary stage of animal into man. And finally Vaman Avtar (human), the man in present form. It is a mythological narration of life’s evolution by Hindu seers. It is in confirmation with Darwin theory of evolution. It is a process of evolution that took millions and millions of years to reach the present stage. Spices originated from a common ancestral stock underwent profound adoptive changes to survive and function in the new habitats and conditions. Many species like dinosaurs etc. who could not survive the changing moods of nature, disappeared from the earth, because of gigantic upheals, the earth had to face. Species have to adjust and adapt to the environment to survive. They model themselves according to their surroundings. Species living on land, mountain, desert, sea, air etc. differ in physics , shapes, habits, styles of living etc. Plants, trees, birds and animals and their kinds have changed overtime through evolution by natural selection and adaptation.

Beasts, birds and insects are intelligent and have brains to understand moods and styles of nature to regulate lives accordingly. Like man, these creatures do enjoy such gifts from nature. They have a sense of liking and disliking. They have consciousness, so feel emotions. Even trees and plants pulsate due to consciousness. Indian Scientist J.C.Bose has proved that the same life and consciousness pulsate in the living and the non-living both. This concept has also been confirmed by the noble scientist, George Wald, ‘Consciousness lies outside the parameter of time and space’. Max Plank and Neills Bhor also express the same view. All the living and the non-living feel the nerve of nature, say the Universe, having a special faculty known as Cosmic Consciousness, as it is eternal and elemental. All creatures, large and small, have senses and organs like the man to make life comfortable and survive on the earth even against odds. But the man is privileged with a super mind and an intuition. Creatures also have the intuition to sense the approaching danger of nature in advance, because they live very very close to nature and understand nature better than man. Anyhow, man also believes in supernatural powers, a mystery to the world of science. Persons with supernatural powers perform miracles of which science has no clue. So the simple man is obliged to think of a super power or divinity that confers upon man powers to perform miracles. Anyhow, from caves to space is an evolutionary journey into the realm of the universe to learn and understand more and more about nature.

Immigrant Indians, coming from a land of magnificent temples and worship places, decorating each road, organized rituals and fair and festivals providing immense satisfaction and sensual pleasures, solely dependant on imparted knowledge about God, religion, life etc. by local and visiting sages and seers, find it hard to understand the philosophy of GITA as well as the concept of evolution of life on the earth, in absence of genuine literature and teacher in the foreign land. Generally people, enchanted by the grand display of money power at religious functions and pomp and show of religious persons, go astray. Labyrinth of various cults, dogmas, doctrines, myths, scriptures, rituals creates confusion. So the sensual pleasure is considered as delight (param-anand), rituals are considered as essentials of the religion and so on. People fail to peep into the reality and truth of the religion.

To understand the reality, one needs not study volumes of scriptures, and waste hours hearing religious discourses. Simply one should understand the meaning of the Hindu word Brahm(God).

Ancient scriptures like Isoupnishad declare that the visible nature, say the Brahmand and the invisible and eternal Brahm or say Paramatma (Supreme soul) or Chinamy Ishwar (Cosmic Consciousness) are but one, though both appear as two separate identities. Oneness and eternity of the both is the highest reality. According to Hindu scriptures Brahm (God) has one thousand names (Sashastranam), God is named Swyambhoo(self born). As such the Universe is self born, without a creator, Brahm (God) is also called Ananta. The word Ananta means endless or infinite. The Universe is also infinite. To sum up, it can be concluded with reason and conviction that the Universe or say the nature is self born and infinite endowed with a cosmic consciousness, an elemental essence eternal ever and needs no personal God for self existence. Nature in itself is a cosmic reservoir of endless energy to carry on activities of creation, preservation and destruction, automatic ever and ever with no outside guidance and assistance.
