Parami – Ways to cross life’s floods by Ajahn Sucitto is a book on the Buddhist concept of pāramī, the essential qualities of heart that allow us to carry through the swirling floods of existence to the groundedness and well-being of our true nature. This book originates from Ajahn Sucitto’s talks at Cittaviveka Monastery in the mid-1990s. Who is Ajahn Sucitto?

Ajahn Sucitto, born as Peter Richard Betts in 1949, is a British-born Theravāda Buddhist monk and meditation teacher. He is well-known for his mindfulness, meditation, and Buddhist philosophy teachings. He has been associated with the Thai Forest Tradition of Ajahn Chah and has spent many years practising and training in various monasteries in Thailand and the United Kingdom.

Ajahn Sucitto became a monk in 1978 under the guidance of Ajahn Sumedho at the Cittaviveka Monastery (also known as Chithurst Buddhist Monastery) in England. He later spent several years practising meditation in monasteries in Thailand and the West, and he gained a reputation for his deep and experiential understanding of Buddhist teachings.

Throughout his teachings and writings, Ajahn Sucitto emphasises the importance of mindfulness and insight meditation, exploring the nature of suffering and the path to liberation as taught in the Theravāda Buddhist tradition. He has written several books, including “Turning the Wheel of Truth,” “Parami: Ways to Cross Life’s Floods,” and “Meditation, A Way of Awakening.”

Ajahn Sucitto’s teachings often focus on integrating mindfulness and meditation into daily life, emphasising the practical application of Buddhist principles for personal transformation and spiritual growth. He has led meditation retreats and workshops in various parts of the world and is an influential figure in the contemporary mindfulness and meditation movements.
