There is also a website in South Africa (or a za domain) I think that offers a kindle version which I have downloaded to my Kindle but since it is not an amazon product, myhighlights are not stored in myhighlights on amazon.com. There are also commercial versions but I am not sure if they are complete.

The only problem I have with the Ivan Smith version is that I can’t highlight or copy text.

Derrida is in my humble opinion basically a Freudian. Generally Western philosophers try to persuade us that language is meaningful due to the “presence” of a world of meanings. Derrida “deconstructs” these attempts, believing rather in the social psychological explanation that meaning even when ‘private’ must be shared with an other even if fictitious. Psychologists that posit a fictitious other include Adam Smith (he was also a psychologist prior to being an economist), Bakhtin, Mead, and Freud. Freud, and even more cryptically Derrida and Nietzche, are about the only people to explain why we are rather unaware of this imaginary friend who understands our words.

It seems to me that Freud and Derrida do not say what is going on in a straightforward way but rather hint, perhaps since say what is going on in a straightforward way would be “the unveiling” (which is in Greek…) Generally I do say it straight (on my pitiful blog!) but I am not sure if one should. The truth is an immense horror abomination kind of thing, with God or the fire hidden, I presume. For my sins, I have only gotten as far as the abomination.

When I first read Freud I thought he was going on about the Father within. One has to read him more carefully, and between the lines.
