Wells is probably most known for his science fiction works, with books such as The Time Machine and The War of the Worlds, but he wrote in a number of genres. H. G. Wells was an active socialist and he visited Soviet on several occasions. Nevertheless, he also revealed a subtle spiritual side. He said: “Christianity is not now true for me. … Every believing Christian is, I am sure, my spiritual brother … but if systemically I called myself a Christian I feel that to most men I should imply too much and so tell a lie.”
