Belcher Mosaic Glass

Mosaic WindowBelcher Mosaic Glass. I just came across this Public Domain gem. Henry F. Belcher was a master mosaic craftsman and he refined the art in the late 1800′ and gave name to the special Belcher process. This mosaic process makes it possible to create large mosaics with tiny pieces of glass that are both wind and water proof. This book presents the catalogue from Belcher Mosaic Glass Co. with more than 50 amazing images of actual mosaic made by the company.

From the intro:

“All garlanded with carven imageries

Of fruits and flowers, and bunches of knot-grass,

And diamonded with panes of quaint devise,

innumerable of stains and splendid dyes,

As are the tiger-moth’s deep-damask’d heraldries,

And twilight saints, and dim emblazonings,

A shielded scutcheon blush’d with blood of queens and kings.”
