Vajrayana is a branch of Buddhism. Vajrayana origined Mahayana from Northern India and Tibet and it is also called: “The lightning fast path to salvation.” Vajrayana Buddhism today is a mixture of Tantric Buddhism and Mahayana Buddhism. Vajrayana uses ritualistic and meditative forms of tantrism in order to more quickly obtain enlightenment and thus salvation or liberation from the cycle of rebirth. Gradually, vajrayana has developed as an independent system with its own scriptures, tantras, and it spread throughout most of the Buddhist world, but only to really take hold in Tibet and Mongolia and later in Japan and China.
