The “Talks with Sri Ramana Maharshi”, was first published in three volumes. Here it is issued in an one-volume edition. After having attained enlightenment at the age of 16, Sri Ramana Maharshi left home for Arunachala, a mountain considered sacred by Hindus, at Tiruvannamalai, and lived there for the rest of his life. Although born a Brahmin, after having attained moksha he declared himself an “Atiasrami”, a Sastraic state of unattachment to anything in life and beyond all caste restrictions. About the book:
Talks with Sri Ramana Maharshi is a compilation of conversations between the Indian sage Sri Ramana Maharshi and visitors who sought his guidance on various spiritual and philosophical matters. The book documents these dialogues, which took place between 1935 and 1939, offering insights into Maharshi’s teachings on self-inquiry (Atma-Vichara), non-duality (Advaita Vedanta), and the nature of the Self.
Maharshi often emphasized the practice of self-inquiry, urging individuals to focus on the question “Who am I?” as a means to dissolve the ego and realize the true nature of the Self, which he taught as pure consciousness beyond personal identity. The talks also address other spiritual practices, such as devotion (bhakti) and meditation, while clarifying the illusion of the mind and the external world.
The book is considered a profound source of spiritual wisdom and is often referred to by seekers of truth and practitioners of non-dual philosophy, providing practical guidance on attaining inner peace, enlightenment, and liberation (moksha).
